The United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG) invites applications for the 59th Session of the International Law Seminar (ILS), scheduled from May 26 to June 5, 2025. This esteemed program is designed for postgraduate students, young scholars, government officials, and early-career legal practitioners specializing in international law.
The ILS offers participants a unique opportunity to deepen their understanding of the work of the International Law Commission (ILC) and engage in discussions on the codification and progressive development of international law. The seminar facilitates meaningful dialogue among legal professionals from diverse legal traditions and cultural backgrounds.

✅ Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:
- Be between 24 and 38 years of age at the time of the seminar.
- Possess a strong background in public international law, demonstrated through postgraduate studies or substantial professional experience.
- Be proficient in at least two of the three working languages of the United Nations: English, French, and Spanish.
- Submit a complete application, including a curriculum vitae, a motivation letter (400–800 words), and two letters of recommendation dated 2025.
💡 Financial Support
While participation in the seminar is free, the United Nations is unable to cover travel or living expenses for all participants. However, subject to funding availability, a limited number of fellowships may be awarded to participants from developing countries to assist with travel and/or living costs.
